I have seen eating challenges all over the United States, but did you know that there are South Carolina restaurants where you can walk in and order their eating challenge too? Through my research I have found 11 such challenges here and I can tell you from talking with the restaurants that some of these are absolutely HUGE! So, if you have ever wanted to try an eating challenge in your own state, there’s no need to go any further…and after eating all of this you many not be able to go any further than where you sat down to begin with.
1. 1720 Burger Bar - Cobra Commander Challenge - 850 Woody Jones Blvd, Florence
The Cobra Commander Challenge is something to be afraid of guys! The "buns" are 2 ham and cheese grilled sandwiches not to mention all that goes between them plus 6 tater bombs! You have 45 minutes to eat it. IF you do...it's free. However, there haven't been too many to complete this meal and I've been told by inside sources that the ones who have didn't look so well by the end.

2. The Dutch Oven Restaurant - 3LB. Burger Challenge - 108 N Main St, Abbeville
Wow! What about this???!! It’s a 3.5 pound burger, 2 patties, grilled, with a homemade bun that weighs an incredible 18 ozs., 12 slices of cheese, 10 slices of tomato, ½ head of lettuce, ¼ cup of pickles, chopped onions and a pound of fries! Time limit is 1 hour. I just don't know folks. I don't think I could tackle this. What about you? Ivan, the owner (who is really nice by the way) says that about 12 people have tried it, but only one has managed to complete it!
3. New York Pizza & Pasta - 28" Pizza Challenge - 194 Civic Center Blvd, Anderson
Best NY style pizza around and the owner is super nice! Here you have a 28" pizza with no time limit. If you eat it, then it's free. What do you think....can you finish this monster?
4. Big Billy's Burger Joint - Belt Buster Challenge - 5070 International Blvd, North Charleston
It's the Belt Buster Challenge! You have to finish ALL of this in 20 minutes or less! If you do...then it's free, but if you don't then you pay for the meal. Are you up to the challenge?
Ready? Set. Go! You have 1 hour to completely eat this 28" pizza. Manuel, who works there, told me that no one has completed this challenge. Do you think you'll be the first?
6. Fox's Pizza Den - 30" Pizza Challenge - 4620 Dick Pond Rd, Myrtle Beach
Fox's has a challenge unlike anything else I have on my list. It's a 30" pizza guys! This challenge is not for the faint of heart, I assure you. I called them up to ask them a few questions and they told me that they have had only one person complete this challenge. What about it? Are you up for some pizza?
7. American Roadside Burgers - Roadstar Burger Challenge - 301 E McBee Ave, Greenville
Look at all that ooey goodness! You have 4- 6oz patties, cheese, and the fixings which equals to a 1.5 pound burger. Finish it in 20 minutes or less and you're put on their wall of fame and get a t-shirt. Might want to order that shirt a size larger than when you went in...
You have 5 pounds of food and 20 minutes! This is what you get: One Peaches Double-Stacker (double/double cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and mayo), One Foot-Long Hot Dog with mustard, chili, onions and slaw, One large order of Chili Cheese Fries, and One Extra Thick Peach Milkshake. If you eat it all in the time allowed you get your money back, your picture on their wall, and a special t-shirt. All you have to do is show up! What do you say?
9. Hwy 55- Five Five Challenge - 4635 Factory Stores Blvd, Suite B210, Myrtle Beach
Take a gander at that! Oh My! It's a challenge of a 55 oz. burger, 4 toppings, a side of fries, and a 24 oz. drink. What do you get if you eat it all? Well, your meal is free and your name is put on their Wall of Fame!

10. Quaker Steak and Lube - Atomic Wing Challenge - 941 Spears Creek Court, Columbia
It's only 6...so it can't be that bad right? From what I hear however, it may set you on fire. Their challenge is to eat 6 wings in increasing hotness. You have no time limit, but you don't get anything to drink. That would make me think that you should eat them as fast as possible if you're going to do this challenge. If you win, you get your name on the Wall of Fame and a free bumper sticker. It's only 6....
This is an 11 pound pizza guys...so, it's absolutely no joke, but they are very generous at Columbo's. They will let you have a friend so you don't have to eat it all by yourself. You and your friend have 45 minutes to eat it all (from what I hear it is a really good pizza). You get the pizza for free if you do and your name on their Wall of Fame, plus a really good meal that will most likely last you a couple of days!
So, are you hungry? I don’t know about you, but I think it would be more fun to watch than to participate. Do you know of other food challenges in South Carolina? Have you ever participated in one? If so, let’s hear about it in the comments below!
