The Palmetto State is home to many museums, but you won’t find another quite like The Sandbox. This hands-on place to learn and play is an interactive museum in the Lowcountry where even adults have a blast. Designed for toddlers and elementary school-aged children, the activities here provide hours and hours of fun. Don’t be surprised if your kids/grand kids don’t want to leave when it’s time to go.
The Sandbox opened in 2005 in Hilton Head and is an ideal spot to take a break from the sun — or to escape a rainy day.
The Sandbox has two main rules that ultimately make this discovery museum so much fun. First, they only allow a certain number of people inside at one time. For that reason, there are days when they have a wait list. (You can always call ahead to see if they've gone to wait list status on any particular day.) The second rule also pertains to space: no strollers allowed inside the museum. If you have an infant, then you'll want to bring a sling to save your back.
Whether bringing your own kids or your grand kids, you're sure to have just as much fun as they are while you watch them discover (and learn) at The Sandbox.
