Not many restaurants in South Carolina (only one, in fact) can boast of having a front door sheathed entirely in alligator skin. Or of being given a nostalgic name eerily familiar to those baby boomers who came up through the ranks into adulthood in an era when a not-so-small cab company saw to their safe, albeit drunken, return home after a raucous night on the town.
But you don't need to know the history of the name of the Rutledge Cab Company to enjoy this eclectic restaurant in Charleston's trendy Wagener Terrace neighborhood on the upper peninsula.
Once inside, you'll find pleasant reminders of the old Rutledge Cab Company. Nostalgic images line the walls, and a car door from an old cab hangs over the hostess station.
Rutledge Cab Company's come-as-you-are and be-who-you-are atmosphere is just the sort of place we'd expect from Charleston's beloved famous comedian/actor/director and all-around funny guy to bring to the table. (We mean Bill Murray, of course!)
Can't wait to check it out? It's conveniently located far enough away from all of the hullabaloo in the historic district to make it super convenient to get to. An ample parking lot is located right out front!
Rutledge Cab Company is located at 1300 Rutledge Ave., Charleston, SC 29403. It’s open seven days a week: Monday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Friday from 11:00 a.m. to midnight, Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Learn more on the official website and follow the Facebook page!
