South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
Are you more of an adventurous type of eater or do you like to stick with eating the same dishes, maybe even on a sort of rotation? When you eat out, do you love trying specials or do you have your menu favorites that you pretty much order every time you eat at a particular restaurant? Maybe you’re somewhere in between each of the possibilities. We’re all different in our habits and preferences, and that’s okay! But for those who enjoy at least a little adventure with their food, we’ve got one of the most highly-rated restaurants in South Carolina for you to explore that doesn’t have a set menu! Let’s take a look at how that works …
R. Kitchen is found in Charleston with two locations, one on Ashley River Road in the West Ashley area and the other downtown on Rutledge Avenue. As you can see, it's quite unassuming.
You may find what's on the menu for the day when you arrive, or something more general like this. Clearly, it was important to be sure diners on this particular day know that bacon was one of the courses, or at least one of the ingredients ... a good sign of what's in store!
And here's the kitchen where all that magic happens. It's open and if you sit at the counter area by the kitchen, you'll be able to watch the chefs at work and converse with them!
Just to be clear about this experience, this place really doesn't even consider itself a restaurant. But the most important thing is making you happy and serving good food.
R. Kitchen serves dishes combining seasonal ingredients with the inspiration and imagination of its chefs. This concept is designed to give chefs the freedom to play with food as they see fit without the constraints of a set menu. The head chef/owner is Ross Webb, trained at Johnson and Wales. He opened R. Kitchen aspiring to provide an intimate atmosphere for enjoying great food.
You never know who you may run into while dining at R. Kitchen ... such as Bill Murray!
