Unless you have a regular reason to drive over to South Carolina’s Horse Creek Valley, you likely haven’t encountered Red Shed Diner. Originally just a roadside produce stand but eventually expanded to include a charming little diner, Red Shed is a hidden treasure. This little South Carolina diner is worth the trip from every corner of the state.
You'll find this awesome diner approximately 10 miles west of Aiken and on the outskirts of Graniteville, a bedroom community with about 2,500 residents.
Red Shed Diner oozes with small town charm. It's the sort of place you can't drive by without stopping in — and you just know before you walk in the door that you'll find something inside that'll have you grinning from ear-to-ear.
It also proves you don't have to fancy to be popular. Most meals are served on disposable plates and with throwaway utensils. Further, the menu is a combination of blue plates (meat and two or three sides) and specialty items the locals have come to love, like their tomato pie.
From their hamburger steak with gravy to their signature burgers and more, the delightful food at Red Shed will leave you more than satisfied. Our fave has to be the Skip Burger... a flavor sensation that includes pimento cheese on top of the house burger.
Of course you could order another menu favorite: meatloaf. The locals in and around Graniteville know where to go when they have a craving for this hearty meal.
Red Shed Diner also has a variety of soups and salads and daily specials. Follow their Facebook page (link below) to view the specials — and then prepare to drop everything the next time they feature their signature fried bologna sandwich.
Just a head's up: we'd love to be able to eat at Red Shed Diner every day of the week, but it's closed on Saturday and Sunday so a spur-of-the-moment trip on the weekend won't lead you to the fabulous, feast-worthy food in the photos above.
Red Shed Diner may be a little out of the way but this is one South Carolina diner that’s worth the effort to get here. It’s open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (closed on Saturday and Sunday). Learn more on the official website and follow the Facebook page here.
