If you were born in South Carolina, then chances are you are very familiar with the privileges that come with living in the Palmetto State. We’re pretty lucky, that’s for sure! Regardless of what part of the state is home to you, the benefits of living here are amazing. Let’s take a look…
1. No matter where we are in the state, we're never more than a few hours from the beach and a view like this one of the Atlantic Ocean.
It's under four hours from the coast to the mountains. It's really the best of both worlds!
2. Likewise, we're never more than a few hours from the mountains, either.
From the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains to the beautiful Jocassee Gorges, South Carolina's mountains are simply stunning.
3. We have a very long list of natural wonders.
From Rainbow Falls and a slew of other gorgeous waterfalls to mountain peaks and centuries-old trees, the Palmetto State is filled with natural beauty to admire.
4. We benefit greatly from having a huge number of beaches to explore.
The Palmetto State has more than 25 beaches on our 187 miles of coastline. How many can you name?
5. South Carolina is home to the least-visited National Park in the country, meaning...
We have it mostly all to ourselves since tourists are so focused on our beach towns. Congaree National Park preserves the largest stand of old-growth bottomland hardwood forest in the entire U.S.
6. There are countless places to enjoy a sunrise or sunset.
Whether it's over the water or the mountains, the start and end to each day is especially picturesque in South Carolina.
7. There is never a shortage of things to do.
Take waterfalls, for example. Oconee County alone has more than
150 waterfalls !
8. Our kids have plenty to keep them (and us!) busy.
Have you discovered the Pirate Ship cruise in Hilton Head (Pirates of Hilton Head)? During the cruise, the pirate ship goes under attack by a wayfairing seaman intent on taking over the scurvy vessel — and it's up to the (little) pirates to defend the crew and passengers!
9. We're great at welcoming tourists into our space.
We're so used to tourists that we welcome them with open arms... sometimes finding them standing in our own backyards.
10. We rather enjoy being a pivotal state during any presidential election.
With another one recently under our belt, we're glad to have the hype behind us once again... until next time.
11. We have an overabundant stock of interesting wildlife.
If you're not comfortable sneaking a peak at it in the wild, then there are many places to see it in captivity, like the Edisto Island Serpentarium, seen here.
