South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
When peace and serenity are what you’re after, the too-beautiful-for-words Jocassee Gorges in the upstate region of South Carolina check both of those boxes. It’s one of the most remote areas of the state, where you can truly unplug and unwind. And there’s a cabin tucked away on seven acres within the gorges that makes the perfect spot for this type of getaway in South Carolina. You may not want to leave!
Although remote, as you can see from the map, the cabin is not difficult to get to, located off of Highway 178.
During your stay, you have complete access to the seven acres of the cabin's owners as well as 50,000 acres of a Department of Natural Resources Wildlife management area, which includes trails to explore.
Understand that most guests are able to make Wifi calls on their cellphones, but it is a bit spotty. This cabin is literally in the middle of the wilderness where there is no actual cell phone reception. A house phone is available on site for emergencies or if you need to make contact with the cabin owners or other guests.

The cabin itself is cozy and inviting, with space to relax and enjoy quality time with your family.
This is a second home for the cabin owners, who try to keep it stocked with essentials and things like spices, oils, etc. that are nice to have when grocery stores are not as close by. However, Holly Springs Grocery and Gas Station is just down the mountain should you need something during your stay. You are free to use what you need that is available at the cabin.
There isn't much more serene than the sounds of a waterfall! Take some time during your getaway to just be. Soak in the solitude as much as you can before it's back to the grind of daily life.
