Located on Crest Street, Glencairn Garden was originally the backyard garden of David and Hazel Bigger. When he passed away in 1958, Mrs. Bigger was unable to continue caring for the garden and had no children. The mayor at the time spoke with her and an agreement was made for the city to take ownership of the property with her still living in the home, but the care of the property became the city's responsibility.

It was a win-win situation that resulted in the preservation of the gardens for the enjoyment of Rock Hill residents and others who come to visit. There are now 11 acres of beauty to explore.

In the spring, the azaleas provide a spectacular array of color everywhere.

Water fountains in various places throughout the garden provide that peaceful sound of water as you take in the sights around you.

Of course, there are many other types of gorgeous flowers to enjoy.

To honor those who have served in our nation's armed forces, there's a victory garden as well as a veteran's memorial.

Lovers of art will adore the hat tip to Vernon Grant, who moved to Rock Hill following World War II.

Best known for his creation of Kellogg's SNAP! CRACKLE! AND POP! characters and his whimsical designs which influenced the work of Walt Disney and Dr. Seuss, Mr. Grant is most known locally for creating the mascot for Rock Hill's annual Come See Me festival.

Watching wildlife is another magical adventure, and in Glencairn Garden you could see birds, butterflies, many turtles, snakes, and more.

While the garden is certainly most colorful during the spring season, it's truly beautiful at any time of the year.
