If you love the outdoors, South Carolina is a hiker’s playground. You could spend a lifetime exploring all the trails here, but not all trails are suitable for all hikers. This strenuous trail is steep, slippery, and has several technical aspects that make it especially challenging.
The Rim of the Gap - Pinnacle Pass Loop is an 8.3-mile-long loop trail that's considered strenuous. While this hike's not for everyone, if you're in decent shape and are able to navigate steep paths, you'll be richly rewarded with some stunning scenery.
...and handle several river crossings. Expect the terrain to be wet and slippery, as it is during most of the year. You'll want hiking boots with good tread, some hiking poles, and plenty of water and snacks to sustain you throughout the day.
In some places, the trail is difficult to follow. Watch for the trail markers along the way, and be prepared for this hike to take you up to eight hours to complete.
Those who are willing to expend the energy for a 2,237-foot elevation gain will be rewarded with this picturesque sight - a pretty waterfall just begging to be photographed.
