We are so close to the start of autumn we can almost smell the season approaching. If you’d like to know when the fall foliage will hit your favorite part of South Carolina, you can head over here to read all about it. And if you’re an adventurer whose up for a hike through the colorful foliage, then see below for a fantastic trail to surround yourself in the splendors of the season.
Aside from cooler temperatures that make it a pleasure to be outside after the Dog Days of Summer dissipate, the other wonderful thing about autumn is the swift change color on the horizon.
One of the best hikes in the state to experience the changing of the colors is along the 10.7-mile Peak to Prosperity Passage of the 500-mile Palmetto Trail.
Our favorite end of the trail from which to launch an adventure is the one that starts on the opposite side of the Broad River from the tiny town of Peak, South Carolina.
There's a parking lot right by the bridge, making it a seamless effort to get started.

If your goal this fall season is to see the colors at their peak, then you'll want to hit this trail sometime between October 10th and October 26th, according to the folks at SmokyMountains.com.
Each year, the folks at SmokyMountains.com pull together a zillion data points and then run them through a proprietary algorithm to determine fall foliage progression across the continental U.S. You can see their interactive map and check the date slider for South Carolina right here.
Aside from being one of the most beautiful segments of the Palmetto Trail, the Peak to Prosperity Passage is also famous for...
You can bring two cars and park one on the far end of the trail before driving the other car to the parking area by the Broad River trestle to begin your hike.
The second option is: spend the night! This passage has a rustic camp area that's perfect for hunkering down and building a fire on a cool October evening.
Of course this means loading up a back pack with the essentials and lugging them along on the hike. Please also to remember to leave no trace so this pristine rail trail can remain so for generations to come.

Or, a third option would be to pedal the trail instead of using foot power on the path.
It's much easier (and faster) to cover ten miles when pedaling than it is to walk.
However you decide to enjoy the splendors of fall along this passage of the Palmetto Trail, be sure to bring a fully-charged phone so you can capture the memories in photos!
