South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
One of the first places many think of when looking for a campground is state parks, but have you considered county parks? Mile Creek Park, for example, is a Pickens County Park with a scenic location on beautiful Lake Keowee, and it’s home to one of the best campgrounds in South Carolina, open year-round. Take a peek and learn more about this wonderful spot.
Located on Keowee Baptist Church Road in the tiny town known as Six Mile, Mile Creek County Park offers a peaceful escape for those looking to reconnect with nature or get away for a few days.
Its amenities include paved boat ramps and more than seven miles of shoreline and rugged terrain perfect for boaters and bank fishermen, three public shelters for group gatherings with water lights and large grills, picnic sites, playground areas, a basketball and volleyball court, a 150-foot dock, and a park store featuring limited grocery and camping items, and firewood.
Campers can select from 69 waterfront or interior campsites with water and electrical hookups. There are three bathhouses and two dump stations at the campground.
Ten lakefront cabins are also available, complete with kitchens and a bathroom. There are no televisions or internet access in the cabins, so this is one of the best campgrounds in South Carolina where you can truly unplug and unwind!

Lake Keowee covers over 18,000 acres and is a popular spot for water sports and fishing. The most sought-after species in Lake Keowee include bass, bream, crappie, and catfish. This park also features beach and swimming areas as well.
If you want to venture out away from the campground to explore more of the area, Six Mile is less than ten miles from the city of Pickens, where you’ll find a park, the Doodle Trail, historic Hagwood Mill, dining spots, and more. Visit the Mile Creek County Park page on the Reserve America website to check the availability of campsites and for additional information.
