Many of South Carolina’s hiking trails are gentle, meandering strolls that inspire a sense of peace. Yet there are some that can only be described as challenging. One prime example is Naturaland Trust Trail, a difficult hike whose altitude gain, rock scrambles, and bridge crossings might make your stomach drop. However, for those who dare complete this harrowing hike, the beautiful waterfalls and lush surroundings are well worth the effort.
Naturaland Trust Trail is a rugged hike through a cove forest within Caesars Head State Park near Cleveland, South Carolina.
The trail clocks in at 5.8 miles out-and-back, although it can be extended if you link up with other connecting trails in the park, such as Raven Cliff Falls and Dismal Trail Loop.
While the trail doesn't offer traditional scenic lookouts, it does provide unique vantage points of rivers, streams, and waterfalls. Just take a look at this suspension bridge crossing over Raven Cliff Falls.
And while the trail is well-marked, hikers have noticed that it is easy to get turned around. Be sure to identify points of interest and check frequently to make sure you are on the right path.
So the next time you're seeking loads of South Carolina wildlife with a full-day hiking challenge, you'll know exactly where to find it.
