Ghostly happenings and paranormal activity have long been reported and recorded in South Carolina. Naturally, some places lend themselves more to this activity than others. If you love to live on the edge and seek out creepy hauntings and otherworldly happenings, then there’s no better place than this paranormal museum that’s more like a lab than an exhibit hall.
By day, the Old City Jail in Charleston looks like an interesting old building.
With its aging appearance and the castle turrets this structure could make people initially wonder if this building was once a wealthy residence. However, perhaps the rusting fused steel bars on the windows tell another story to innocent passersby; one that says this castle-like building has more history then this brightly lit facade lets on.
And then as the night falls, this building takes on a whole new personality with an eerily menacing vibe.
In 137 years, it's said that 14,000 souls perished at this facility. And it stands to reason that some of them are simply trapped here. (There's a moving white orb in the above photo. Do you see it - just to the right of the stair rail?)

You can tour the old jail nightly. From the moment you step through the doors...
...the museum of the paranormal is staring you right in the face. There are artifacts like this old transport chair likely left behind from when the jail was operational.
Everywhere you look, you'll find signs of the countless lives that passed through this relic.
A tour here is like a totally interactive museum experience and you never know what you'll find - or whom. But one thing's for sure, you better bring your guts just in case you encounter something that makes you want to run for the hills.
We found this photo on the Facebook page of Bulldog Tours, the company that conducts tours at the jail. The photo was accompanied by a very disturbing disclosure.
Apparently there was a team from a Hollywood TV show about paranormal investigations at the jail in October 2016. Perhaps they were attempting to spend the night. The Facebook post said that the team left in the middle of the night - in a big hurry. Did they scare up an evil presence? Did they all get sick? There was no followup to that post so we may never know why they felt compelled to leave in the middle of the night.
And the weird happenings have continued! In February 2017, there was a huge late night paranormal investigation on the anniversary of the death of one of the jail's most notorious prisoners, Lavinia Fisher. Did it anger her ghost?
The investigation was held on the anniversary of the day Lavinia Fisher was hanged, Feb. 18, 1820. Fisher is credited with being the first female serial killer in America. She was arrested and housed at this jail until her hanging. At the hanging her last words were reportedly, "If you have a message for the devil, give it to me and I'll deliver it in person." Did the February investigation stir up more paranormal activity than ever? Did it rouse the spirit of Lavinia? Read on.

Exactly two months to the day after the Lavinia Fisher paranormal investigations...
..the Haunted Jail Tour posted this photo to their Facebook page (on April 18, 2017). A teenage boy on a routine nightly tour began complaining that his back was burning. After some time, he pulled up his shirt for someone to take a look - and they found these marks all over his back!
Did the Hollywood paranormal team back in October awaken some angered ghost that's still lurking at the Old City Jail?
This hands on museum of the paranormal is like a lab filled with ghosts and otherworldly things surrounded by the relics of a city jail where 14,000 people died over the years. Have you been inside this place? We’d love to hear about your experience in our comments.
