If you’re a seasonal camping enthusiast, then you probably always get that camping bug at the start of the spring and fall seasons. It may come as a surprise to learn there is a fun, family-friendly campground tucked right behind the treeline in one of the state’s fastest growing towns.
In spite of the colossal growth the town of Mt. Pleasant has experienced in the last 20 years, the Mt. Pleasant KOA has managed to remain a clean, fun-filled and safe place for families to spend a camping vacation.
Aside from the sign at the entrance to the driveway, the KOA is a hidden gem to those traveling on busy Highway 17. You'd never know all that's behind that treeline. Take a look:
For starters, the KOA can accommodate campers, RVs, and tents and offers sites with, and without, hookups.
Many of the tent sites are located next to the picturesque lake.
For a nominal fee, you can rent a canoe, kayak or paddle boat to explore the lake for a few hours. The fishing is pretty good too! (But don't set your sights on catching dinner, all fish here are catch and release only.)
The campground also has a variety of cabins for rent.
Whether your tastes are for the rustic variety with no bathroom or kitchen — or you desire something a little more refined — the KOA has a cabin for everyone.
Want a deluxe cabin that has a full kitchen, a full bath, and can sleep six people?
They have them and they have a gorgeous lakefront location. Glamping never looked so good!
For those days when you don't want to cross the Isle of Palms bridge to head to the beach, the sun shines just as bright on the pool at the KOA.
In fact, there is so much to do at this campground that you may never need to leave!
From pedal-powered go-karts to walking trails and a fun playground for the kiddos, this KOA has it all.
The lake trail is a great place to relax and enjoy the lowcountry environment alongside the lake. The 1.5 mile trail circles the 30-acre lake with sweeping water views nearly all the way around.
But for those days when you actually feel like checking out the area, Mt. Pleasant has an endless list of things to do.
Boone Hall Plantation is located less than a mile away.
You'll love exploring this historic plantation located in Mt. Pleasant. The entrance has a tunnel of trees that's perfect for keepsake photos of your vacation.
After, head over to the Patriots Point Naval Maritime Museum.
You may think, because of its size, that this ship (shown above) is all there is to see and do at Patriots Point, but trust us: you'll be pleasantly surprised. Ever been inside a submarine? You can do that here!
Another favorite spot for locals and tourists alike is the (fairly) new Mt. Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park.
Enjoy up close views of the iconic Ravenel Bridge while exploring this park and enjoying the breezes blowing in from the Charleston harbor.
Did you know about this fun campground hidden in Mt. Pleasant?
