As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
If your next adventure in the Palmetto State involves getting away from it all at a rustic little spot in the mountains, then this may be the perfect place for you. Nestled in the community of Mountain Rest in the western part of the state is a log cabin campground that could be your new favorite place to sneak away for a few days. Check it out below.
Mountain Rest Cabins and Campground is located on 27 acres in the Sumter National Forest.
There are a variety of cabin styles to choose from, including small studios, bigger cabins that accommodate more people, and even a couple of small cottages.
The campground has campsites that range from primitive and wooded to out in the wide open with some amenities. Tents, trailers and RVs are welcome, and a restroom facility is onsite.
If a quiet place in the country is what you're after, then this campground will surely fill that desire. Note, not all sites have power or water. If those amenities are important for your overall experience, then you should ask for them when you make a reservation.
When you've gotten your fill of sitting on the porch or deck (or around the campfire in the campground), there are plenty of options for nearby excursions.
The trailheads to a variety of spectacular waterfalls are within a few minutes drive of the campground. (The owners are always willing to give great advice on where to go and how to get there.)
If fancy is what you’re looking for then you may want to put this one on your list for another time when you’re yearning more for a rustic getaway. The unassuming, yet ever-pleasant, log cabin campground found at Mountain Rest Cabins is perfect for a weekend, a week, or longer!
If waterfall chasing is on your agenda while at this rustic resort, we put together a waterfall road trip through the Sumter National Forest. Check it out in this previous article.
