South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
The health benefits derived from being out in nature are many, from the Vitamin D we get from the sun to the cardiovascular benefits from hiking our beautiful trails, not to mention the effects of being out in nature on our mental and spiritual health. Most of us find ourselves enjoying these benefits while outdoors for recreational purposes, while others work outdoors. It was an observation made about the work environment of Polish salt miners in the 1800s by a physician named Feliks Boczkowski that led to the discovery of halotherapy, a modern dry salt therapy that has become more popular in recent years. He noticed that the salt miners did not have the respiratory or lung problems common with other miners and began promoting salt therapy. Today, there are hundreds of salt rooms in the United States where you can try this type of therapy for yourself. Let’s explore one of those together – an incredible salt cave in Hilton Head Island.
So if you live in Hilton Head Island or are planning a beach trip or girl’s getaway there, make sure to plan some time for some salt therapy! Need a recommendation for a place to stay overnight? The “Eternal Summer Villa” across from the beach is a great option.
