Some of the best kinds of establishments are the ones that have been around the longest, like South Carolina’s oldest general store (you can read about that one here.) We also love it when someone breathes new life into an old business. That is exactly the case with the following general store that opened long before the Civil War. In 2012, it was converted into a charming restaurant – and the end result couldn’t be more deliciously nostalgic.
It’s difficult to find old buildings that have been reborn with so much of the original integrity left untouched. Martin’s is a truly unique step back in time.
Martin’s General (a.k.a. The Beehive) is located at 12333 Indian Mound Rd., Ware Shoals, SC 29692. (As a mere point of reference, that’s 80 miles northwest of Columbia and 40 miles south of Greenville.) It’s open Wednesday 11:00 – 2:00, Thursday 11:00 – 2:00 and 5:00 – 8:00, Friday 11:00 – 2:00, Saturday 7:00 – 2:00. Learn more on their official Facebook page.
