Few people know that a mere five miles north of Georgetown sits a property that is said to be the most well preserved (former) rice plantation in America. Begun in 1718, Mansfield Plantation is also the only rice plantation in the U.S. that’s been saved from development by a direct descendant of the original owner. It currently serves as a bed and breakfast, the likes of which you just won’t find anywhere else. Period.
