The Palmetto State is positively brimming with natural wonders. From the mountains to the Lowcountry, there’s simply no shortage of memorable places to explore. Today’s featured destination is one such place that’s a little lesser known but no less magnificent than some of the state’s bucket-list experiences. Without further ado, here’s how you can discover a little-known natural wonder in South Carolina when you embark on the 1.5-mile Natural Bridge Trail. Ready to get started?
Our adventure today takes us to Keowee-Toxaway State Park, a breathtaking destination situated along the picturesque 18,500-acre Lake Keowee.
To get to this little-known natural wonder in South Carolina, you'll want to take the namesake Natural Bridge Trail. It's just 1.5 miles in length and isn't too strenuous.
To best prepare for your hike, be sure to wear sturdy shoes. The trail can become muddy and slick after heavy rainfall.
Before long, you'll arrive at the main attraction. Natural Bridge is small in size, but it is significant given that it's the only known natural bridge in the state. Plus, you can walk right over it for a unique perspective of the surrounding landscape.
The trail is a short one, but be sure to spend plenty of time enjoying all that it has to offer. Visit during the spring and summer months, and you'll be treated to the sight of blooming wildflowers.
The park offers hike-in primitive sites, RV sites, and a single cabin.
