South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
There are parts of South Carolina that are simply enchanting, too beautiful even for words, places like Brookgreen Gardens at Christmas, the tunnel of trees, and the treehouse restaurant that looks like it’s out of a fairytale. If you’re ready for a magical adventure in South Carolina that will truly light up your soul, leaving you feeling rejuvenated and refreshed, keep reading. We’ve found one we’re so excited to share with you.
Wadboo Creek is a part of the Berkeley Blueways, a system of 24 paddling trails in Berkeley County with over 225 miles of navigable waters. It has historical significance as the site of an attack on Brig. Gen. Francis Marion and his militiamen by the British in 1782.
Today, Wadboo Creek is used for recreation, including kayaking, canoeing, and fishing. One of the most beautiful paddles in the state, Upper Wadboo Creek is a lovely, old cypress swamp with massive trees.
Golden Club, an aquatic plant, is commonly seen in the spring or summer season, as it grows in bogs or shallow water, slow-moving streams, swamps, and pond margins in water one to twelve inches deep with leaves floating on the surface.
And while the backdrop during the winter months may be a bit more subdued, your chances of seeing more wildlife are higher with less foliage and lower water levels.
