In just a few short weeks, the tiny town of Gilbert, South Carolina (population 500) will swell to epic proportions for one single day of sweet fun. Now in its 61st year, the Lexington County Peach Festival held in Gilbert every year since 1959, takes place on July 4th and attracts more than 35,000 people to this tiny community.
The celebrations began in Gilbert oh-so long ago when the landscape around town was lined with peach orchards. Today, only a few peach farms remain, but the spirit of the peach harvest lives on.
Each year, on July 4th, Gilbert shares it with the world with sweet success. Here's some of the great family fun you can expect at the annual Lexington County Peach Festival:
First and foremost, expect some delicious peach treats, from homemade cobbler to ice cream and more.
Earlier in the month, a peach dessert contest took place with the winner taking home some cold hard cash for the best dish. Expect there to be more than one way to enjoy a peach at the festival and be sure to come hungry!
The annual Peach Parade takes place beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Hampton and Main Streets.
Nothing quite compares to a small town parade and Gilbert is an ideal place to see one. Bring a chair and reserve an early spot along the parade route so you'll have a front row seat for the charming madness.
If you love old vehicles (who doesn't?!), then expect cars galore!
The annual car show begins at 9 a.m. Prepare to be wow'd be these hots rods and more. Get here in time to see the parade and you'll see many of them in the parade.
Art and craft vendors line the shady curbs along Rikard Circle.
Discover a variety of homemade goods and tasty goodies among this huge selection of vendors. Stroll along perusing all of the fun things for sale while you enjoy the festive occasion.
Other things on tap: food — and plenty of it. There is also a midway and carnival rides with something for all ages, even the grown ups.
At the end of the night, one of the best Fourth of July fireworks displays in the Midlands takes place at 10 p.m.
Get ready for a full day of family fun and celebration at the 61st Annual Lexington County Peach Festival! Be sure you pull out your best Fourth of July attire and make plans to attend on July 4th.
