The park features a relic left over from the land's previous occupants. Atalaya Castle was the winter home of Anna Hyatt Huntington and Archer Huntington, who also owned what is now the nearby Brookgreen Gardens.

The castle adds exquisite beauty to the park and any visit to HBSP without seeing Atalaya Castle wouldn't be complete. You'll find it open to explore the inside most days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., unless there's a special event taking place. As you can imagine, many couples get married in this stunning setting.

Nature enthusiasts will go wild over the boardwalk trails in the park. Check out a freshwater lagoon on one of the treks; on the other, travel into a saltwater marsh.

The preserve at Huntington attracts more than 300 birds — many of them are seasonal visitors that return each year. Pictured here, the Rosette Spoonbill is a winter guest. Expect to marvel over wildlife galore as you explore the three trails at HBSP.

Want to spend the night? The park offer 173 campsites. Many of them are carved right into the natural flora of the maritime forest. With so much to see and do within the park, you may never want to leave the property during your camping trip.

Huntington Beach State Park is open year-round. A small admission fee is charged at the entrance: $8 for adults, $5 for South Carolina seniors, and $4 for youths age 6-15. Children 5 and younger are free. Hours of operation vary by season but the park opens at 6 a.m. daily.
