South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
Isn’t it cool to live in a state with such diverse geography? You can be at the beach and then within a few hours be in the mountains, all in the same day! And tucked away in our mountains is an old-fashioned restaurant in South Carolina called The Hungry Drover that you really should check out.
You’ll need to head to the delightful town of Traveler’s Rest, which was included recently in a list of best small towns by Southern Living, to visit this restaurant.
The restaurant is located at the intersection of Highway 290 and Tigerville Road, and it doesn't look like anything all that special necessarily from the outside. You may even drive right past it without giving it another thought.
It does have a cute sign with an illustration portraying its namesake. A drover is one who moves animals, usually sheep, cattle, and horses "on the hoof" over long distances.
Be prepared for a standing-room-only situation if you go for the shrimp and grits on Friday evenings! Follow the restaurant's Facebook page (linked below at the end of the article) for announcements of upcoming specials and other updates.
