South Carolina is notoriously popular for our fine dining restaurants, complete with linens and a wait staff to cater to your every need. But sometimes that scene can be a little over-the-top. The very next time you feel that way, head to the tiny town of Yemassee, where you’ll find a come-as-you-are eatery that’s never met a stranger.
Harold's Country Club was built in the 1930s as a Chevrolet dealership.
Harold Peeples purchased it in the late 1970s after it had been converted to a gas station and auto parts store. At that point, he began hosting Thursday night covered dinners, which quickly transitioned into Harold doing all the cooking. Soon, he was cooking on more nights than just Thursdays and started charging a small fee to cover expenses.
Wildly popular, Harold's is decorated in an unforgettable fashion - with keepsakes from the past lives of the property.
The cafeteria style seating is unique and offers a chance to get to know new people you're sharing a table with.
The menu at Harold's is about as eclectic as they come. It has one choice per night, which makes it easy no matter how you look at it. Want a steak?
They're grilled to perfection, but only on Saturday nights. Oh, and you'll need to call ahead and reserve that steak. The good news is, they'll always have plenty of PBR on hand!
Harold's is located just up the road from one of the South's most famous church ruins from the Civil War era.
Before or after your dinner at Harold's, take a picturesque drive under a canopy of moss-draped oak trees enroute to see the famous church ruins to cap off the adventure.
Harold's Country Club Restaurant is conveniently located just off Interstate 95. Many passers through make Yemassee their overnight stop enroute to Florida JUST SO they can eat at Harold's!
You'll find
Harold's Country Club at 97 HWY. 17A & 21, Yemassee, SC 29945. They're open Thursday, Friday and Saturday only. If you have questions, or if you want to reserve a spot for the Saturday night steak dinner, call them at 843-589-4360. Find out more on their
