Ask a local Greenvillian about farmers markets in the area and you’ll likely get a glowing recommendation to visit the seasonal Saturday Market in downtown Greenville on Saturday mornings from May through October. But today, we’re talking about another farmers market in Greenville that’s indoors and open year-round with fresh produce and more. Even when the downtown market is in season, some prefer to head to the outskirts of town to the Greenville State Farmers Market on Rutherford Road. It may not have all of the hype or the huge festival atmosphere of the other market, but it’s open six days week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Take a peek inside:
The huge warehouse space at the Greenville State Farmers Market has retail space within its humble surround. No matter the season, admission and parking are always free at this huge indoor farmers market.
Visitors can always expect to find a large assortment of seasonal plants to bring a garden to life, as well as mulches and more. Need shrubs or even trees? They'll have them here in addition to their many potted plants.
Back inside the huge shed, a variety of vendors are on hand selling more than just fresh veggies. From gardening supplies to local crafts and handmade soaps, and even locally-made preserves.
While perusing the many vendor stands offering the freshest in-season veggies and fruits, visitors who work up a little hunger looking at all of the fresh produce can also pick up a bite to eat in the small cafe at this farmers market.
While the market is open year-round, it does close for Thanksgiving and Christmas as well as all state holidays. So get your berries and other fruit ahead of time when there's a state holiday ahead.
For those Saturdays when you just don't feel like dealing with the downtown Saturday Market in Greenville (although it IS pretty special), head to the Greenville State Farmers Market instead. It's a great way to spend your weekend!
