We have to admit: giraffes are peculiarly fascinating creatures. From their outward appearance with long gangling necks and legs that go on forever to their whimsical pattern and gentle demeanor, giraffes have charmed humans throughout the ages. Here in South Carolina, only a handful of ambassador giraffes reside in zoos where we can visit and admire them as often as we like.

Currently, three giraffes call the Greenville Zoo home.

That would be Miles, Autumn, and a juvenile named Kellan.
But the zoo is expecting a fourth giraffe, a baby, in February and we couldn't be happier!

Few people know that giraffes, while they seem docile and friendly, actually have more heart than most mammals. Three hearts, to be exact. Each giraffe is born with three hearts.
Perhaps that's why we love them so very much.

With a new baby on the way, the zoo and its members are on high alert with some special giraffe cams that have been installed.

Giraffes are the tallest living mammals on the planet, but the cams capture them from high above and will provide every detail as Autumn's pregnancy progresses.
A giraffe's gestation lasts for more than a year and often as long as 15 months.

The winter hours for the Greenville Zoo are daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
