South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
Most of us have our favorite restaurant spots, those places that we tend to frequent much more than others. We also know those who in their golden years of life tend to establish routines, often having just one restaurant they become such a regular at, the waitstaff know their names and even what their “usual” is. The Ball & Que Restaurant in Georgetown has become one of those types of places for its community over its 50+ years in business!
Positioned along Route 17 Alternate that runs straight through Georgetown, the Ball & Que is conveniently located just minutes from the Georgetown Historic District.
During the summer of 2020, the Ball & Que celebrated its 50th anniversary. It opened in the beginning as a snack bar and grew into more over time.
The Winyah Cruisers (a group of friends interested in classic cars and trucks) meet at the Ball & Que on the 3rd Thursday of every month for a meal together.
The Ball & Que is known for its friendly atmosphere and is often packed full of its faithful patrons, customers such as Mr. "Jeep Ford," who became such a regular through the years that the restaurant named one of its tables for him.
And then one day while Mr. Jeep Ford was dining at the Ball & Que, he asked the owner to make him a salad just as she would make it for herself. He liked it so much he told her he felt she ought to add it to the menu. And thus was born the Jeep Ford Salad!
Sadly, Mr. Jeep Ford passed away in 2021. His legacy at the Ball & Que, though, will live on.
The Ball & Que in Georgetown is open starting at 6 a.m. for breakfast. Mrs. Joann, the owner, has homemade cheese biscuits on the menu that are delicious!
Have you ever eaten at the Georgetown Ball & Que? If you’ve never visited Georgetown before, perhaps plan a trip! Book this cute Winyah Bay cottage for a couple of nights to give you plenty of time to explore this charming town. If you go in October, you’ll also get to enjoy a unique wooden boat festival!
