South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
What used to be Citizens Bank on East Main Street in downtown Rock Hill is now a French bakery and café called Amélie’s. The building is over 80 years old, has five stories, and underwent major renovations after it was purchased from the city in 2005 totaling $1 million. Amélie’s occupies the first and second floors of the building, and perhaps one of the coolest, most unique features of this Rock Hill bakery is its use of the large vault that was preserved.
The fun doesn't stop with the vault, though. The atmosphere inside this bakery is cozy and laid-back. It feels much like you could have somehow stepped into France.
I visited Amelie's during a special trip with my kids to meet my sister and niece for a Christmas celebration. I found this little place to be just as charming in person as in photos.
The pastry counter is full of yummies, tempting you to want to just eat a little bit of everything you see.
The decor is whimsical and cheery. You just feel like sitting down and relaxing for a while. It's definitely the type of place where you can take a least a moment to unwind and escape from life's busy pace.
... or perhaps a banana cream tart if you'd prefer something fruity. You really can't go wrong no matter what you decide to try at this cute bakery in Rock Hill.
Amélie's French Bakery & Café is also a great spot for lunch, offering sandwiches, soups, and salads. Pictured here is a spring menu option, the Jalapeno Cheddar Chicken Salad, very popular among customers.
We found the perfect spot to gather in a little room upstairs that has a huge window with a lovely view of part of Old Town Rock Hill.
Of course, you would expect to find macarons here as well, but these are special macarons, purple in support of the Alzheimer's Association. Amélie's donated 100% of the proceeds from macarons during the month of June directly to the Alzheimer's Association - Western Carolina.
Visit the Amélie’s French Bakery & Café Facebook page for more information and updates. Have you ever been to this incredible Rock Hill bakery? What’s your favorite thing to have there?
If you haven’t been there yet, perhaps a road trip is in order. Pack up some road trip snacks and check out Ebenezer Park Beach for an afternoon of fun while you’re there. It’s a gorgeous inland beach with the most amazing 10,000-square-foot circular pier!
