South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
It’s a bummer to sit down at a restaurant and give the waitstaff your order only to find out that what you wanted has sold out for the day, especially if it’s one of your favorites. If it happens often, you figure you better get there earlier in the day going forward. This is particularly true if we’re talking about the bread pudding at Willie Jewell’s Old School Bar-B-Q in North Charleston. It must be one of the best desserts in South Carolina because it sells out every day!
Located on University Boulevard in North Charleston, Willie Jewell's Old-School Bar-B-Q is a sister concept restaurant to the legendary Bono's Pitt Bar-B-Q restaurant in Florida.
The concept was inspired by a woman who was taken in at 16 years old by the family running the restaurant. She began working there and was found to be an amazing cook and an incredible person as well.
In addition to having one of the most popular South Carolina desserts, inside you'll find a comfortable and casual, welcoming atmosphere with great customer service.
The ribs are St. Louis cut, which means they are meatier than the baby back type. Willie Jewell's is known for more than just dessert ... people drive for miles for these ribs!
And then, you'll want to have some bread pudding if it hasn't sold out yet. It tastes and smells heavenly, but you'll have to decide for yourself if you think it's the best dessert in South Carolina!
