Most natives, especially those living near the coast, call a seafood boil ‘Frogmore Stew.’ That’s because, here in South Carolina, we lay claim to having invented Frogmore Stew (a.k.a. the seafood boil) in the small St. Helena Island community of Frogmore (and… you’re welcome, America!). But whatever you prefer to call it, the build-your-own version available at Flying Fish Public Market and Grill is a feast you won’t soon forget.
Perched right on the edge of the picturesque Intracoastal Waterway, Flying Fish is also found within Barefoot Landing, a popular shopping district in North Myrtle Beach.
The space is enormous and there is plenty of room on two split-level floors to accommodate everyone. Which, you'll soon find out... is a good thing in more ways than one since you'll appreciate all of the extra room to spread out and enjoy the feast ahead.
The menu includes a variety of scrumptious appetizers and soups that feature seafood in traditional and southern dishes. And the entrees include sandwiches, (fish) tacos, and house specialties like shrimp and grits, fish and chips, jambalaya, lobster ravioli, snow crabs, and Lowcountry crab cakes (seen here). There is a huge variety of entrees for land lovers, as well.
The boils (a.k.a. Frogmore Stew) all start with the same base items: red skin potatoes, pecan-smoked sausage, and corn on the cob. You can add the Old Bay Seasoning or ask them to leave it out.
Then, choose the seafood you'd like in your custom boil: Gulf Shrimp, Littleneck Clams, Pei Mussels, Oysters, or Snow Crab Clusters. You can't go wrong with a Frogmore Stew (a.k.a. Seafood Boil) that includes exactly the seafood you love.
But what if you love them all and can't decide? There's an easy solution for that: just bring more people and make it a feast for the whole table to share!
Flying Fish Public Market & Grill is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. Visit Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
