South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
Since 1951, Blacks Camp has served families as a fishing and hunting paradise in South Carolina. Grace and Arnis Blackmon set out to establish a family-friendly place surrounded by natural beauty where people could enjoy time away from the everyday stresses of life. What started out as a simple fishing camp on Lake Moultrie has evolved into more of a destination that has become a tradition passed down through generations of families.
Set by Lake Moultrie just off the diversion canal, providing easy access to Lake Marion also, Blacks Camp is located on Blacks Camp Road in the small town of Cross.
Over time after its founding, a motel with 30 rooms, a restaurant, a campground with 65 sites, and small rentals and cabins have been added to better serve guests' needs while fishing or hunting.
Blacks Camp Restaurant offers both a breakfast and a dinner menu with a variety of options to choose from, including eggs, grits, chicken and waffles, and more for the former and salads, burgers, and more for the latter.
Starting in 2017, the Blacks Camp Big Cat Shootout has been held annually as a high stake, 100% payout, trophy catfish tournament. Angler registration is $500 per team.
Tournament guidelines allow two fish per day in the two-day tournament, and in 2021 a father-daughter team took home first place with a total of 183.68 pounds.
Blacks Camp also offers deer and turkey hunting opportunities.
