South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
Ever wish you had a “new home” for something you don’t have use for anymore but would rather not just toss in the trash? Let’s talk about ReCraft in Greenville, South Carolina’s first creative reuse center and one of just over 120 of them in the country. The creative reuse movement is one that is currently growing and seeking to provide a solution for problems like teachers using their own money to pay for supplies needed in the classroom and too many things that could be recycled ending up in landfills. Come along as we learn about this incredible venture that was launched by a Clemson MBAe graduate!
Everything available at ReCraft has been generously donated from local households and businesses and is then sorted and displayed by caring volunteers.
After an internet consultation, ReCraft's inventory was scoured for supplies in the right dimensions (the base was a recycle bin donated by Fluor!), and several people came together to help the volunteer craft what you see here, which was used for the party and now graces the daughter's bedroom door. This project was made in just a couple hours with 100% repurposed materials and serves as proof of the clever ReCraft slogan: You Can Make It Here.
You'll be amazed by some of the things you'll find at ReCraft. Check out this Evolution sewing machine, donated in pristine condition!
Or how about the water test kits donated by a business, said to have a lovely percussive quality from the ball bearings? Would be interesting to see how they're repurposed!
Not only can you shop at ReCraft, but there's a Maker Space area where you can use over 100 different kinds of materials and tools to craft whatever you dream up. There's a nominal fee and you can walk in or make a reservation to participate. This is a perfect rainy-day outing!
