Most People Don't Know There's A Little Fenway Park In South Carolina
For some people, the March Madness Basketball Tournament quietly signals the end of Winter and the arrival of Spring. With each Spring there’s a promise of another exciting baseball season where everyone starts over and the slate is wiped clean. It’s perfect.
You may be surprised to learn that South Carolina has a baseball park that is a replica of the famous Fenway Park. You don’t have to be a diehard sports fan to have heard of the Boston Red Sox or their famous field, Fenway Park. The Red Sox have been playing there since 1912.
South Carolina’s “little Fenway” is home to the Class A team of the Boston Red Sox, The Greenville Drive. Our “little Fenway,” called Fluor Field, opened on the Westend of Greenville in 2006 and, except for the number of seats (Fluor Field seats rougly 5,800 while Fenway seats a little more than 37,000) the similarities are remarkable.
