Rounding out some of our top picks for family fun this fall is the wonderful Thompson Farm & Nursery at Brickyard Plantation just five miles south of Conway, South Carolina. This picturesque farm is found on 156 acres that front the Waccamaw River and it opens for events throughout the year, including during the fall for some unique attractions you just won’t find at all agri-tourism farms in the state.
Let's talk history first. Thompson Farms first opened to the public in 2009 in its original location not far from the current one. But in 2019, when owner Scott Thompson saw the opportunity to expand into 156 acres at Brickyard, he took it and moved the whole operation.
The farm hosts a 6.5-acre corn maze that's open every weekend, including after dark for flashlight fun on Friday nights. (Complete hours are listed below.)
Dates and times vary and can be seen at this link of upcoming events at the farm. Yes... there are some movies slated for the fall season. Tickets must be purchased online and in advance. Both vehicle passes and field seating are available.
A great big play area allows a whole lot of room for the kids to run and play on equipment they won't find on just any playground.
The many tire horse swings are among the favorites but there's also an 80-foot slide (also popular with the adults), two jumping pads, and much, much more.
The gorgeous setting, the outdoor movies, and so much more make Thompson Farm & Nursery in Conway one of our highly recommended places to check out this fall with the kids.
And if you want to spend the night, you can even reserve a spot in Thompson's primitive camping spots that are literally right on the edge of the picturesque Wacammaw River! Learn all about the camping and see some photos here.
Thompson Farm & Nursery at Brickyard Plantation is located a mere five miles south of Conway, 20 miles from Myrtle Beach, and only 90 miles from Charleston.
The hours for the fall festivities at Thompson Farm are Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through October 31, 2021. The outdoor movies mentioned above are only on select nights. See that list on the Events tab on the website. Tickets are only available online. See the website for more information.
