South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
Sometimes we find breathtaking beauty in the most unexpected places. In a world full of noise about the latest trend or popular place you need to visit, it’s refreshing to stumble onto those spots that are less traveled, the hidden gem types of places. Enter stage right: Jeffries Creek Park, one of the nicest local parks in Florence, SC!
Tucked away off of State Road S-21-836 between Edisto Drive and DeBerry Boulevard by the Florence Country Club and surrounded by an upscale neighborhood, Jeffries Creek Park consists of 55 sprawling acres of wooded wetland in the city of Florence, which is located in the northeastern region of South Carolina.
There are several trails within the park meandering across Jeffries Creek where you can enjoy a nice, long, and peaceful stroll. The most popular trail there is the Jeffries Creek Park Loop, which is just under a mile long and an easy route.
It's pretty no matter the time of year, with views of beautiful cypress trees in the old-growth swamp areas. Don't forget bug spray especially during warmer times of the year, and of course, be sure to watch out for snakes. In fact, a hiker came across a huge non-venomous snake in the park in 2021 and has come across copperheads there in the past.
Enjoy a quiet picnic lunch at the picnic tables in Jeffries Creek Park. The kids can play for awhile on the playground there as well, one of the only fully shaded playgrounds in the Florence park system!
This beautiful Florence park is truly a hidden gem worth a visit. Other features of interest include a canoe/kayak launch, deep fishing holes, and more. There’s no entrance fee and there are no facilities in the park. You can bring along your pup, but he/she should be kept on a leash.
Did you know Florence was named one of America’s top main streets for 2023? There’s so much more to discover in this city beyond Jeffries Creek Park! Consider staying in a cozy Vrbo rental and experience more of this corner of the state.
