Sometimes a little alcohol can go a long way… especially when the state (and country) is experiencing a shortage of hand sanitizer. Knowing this, more than a handful of distilleries in South Carolina have begun to bottle more than spirits to help get us through the uncharted territory ahead. One of them, Nippitaty Distilley located in North Charleston, is stepping up to the plate with free hand sanitizer (it’s BYOB and available only on certain days of the week) for locals in need.
After a plea from a large, local hospital to area distilleries, Nippitaty Distillery began shifting focus from their usual gin and vodka varieties to another precise blend of ingredients.
As of early March, the distillery began combining a high-proof non-consumable alcohol and other items to create a hand and surface sanitizer to answer the call for help.
Of course the distillery is still selling their popular gin and vodka from their sales floor. But today, the most sought after item is a different kind of mix — hand sanitizer!
The free hand sanitizer is available on a first-come, first-served basis and is only available on certain days of the week. The best way to stay in the know about availability is to check their Facebook page, as it's updated regularly about open dates, availability, and times.
Know of another distillery in South Carolina that’s offering free hand sanitizer or of another business that’s changed its products in response to the pandemic?
