The beach at Botany Bay Plantation is two deliciously undeveloped miles of breathtaking shoreline along the South Carolina coast. Included in the 2500 acres that make up the Botany Bay Plantation Wildlife Management Area, this protected beach is unlike any other in the Palmetto State.
Enroute to the beach you'll walk along the earthen causeway through a gorgeous landscape that includes marshlands, tidal flats and a small island. It's about half a mile out to the beach.
But don't think about taking them home. This two miles of beachfront in the Palmetto State is protected and it's illegal to take anything from the beach, including shells.
It's sort of a "tradition" among beachgoers at Botany Bay to put their stamp on the place by placing a shell somewhere - even if the incoming tide, or the next storm will just move it again.
To get to Botany Bay Beach at Botany Bay Plantation, head to Edisto Island and turn onto Botany Bay Road. You can't miss it, it's the road that looks like a postcard. The address is 1066 Botany Bay Rd, Edisto Island, SC 29438.
