On the afternoon of March 28, 1984, deadly tornados moved into western South Carolina. A tornado “watch” had been issued after tornadic activity was spotted in a storm that was moving through Georgia and heading toward South Carolina. Two tornados had touched down in Georgia in the period of an hour and five minutes; one of them was very brief and lasted seconds, the other injured one person. The damages to life, lives and property in South Carolina were devastating.
