For a day trip of epic proportions, head to Daufuskie Island in South Carolina to check out the Daufuskie Island Distillery (a.k.a. Daufuskie Island Rum Company). Opened in 2013, this island distillery is one of only two island distilleries in the country. And building a distillery on an island with no bridge connecting it to the mainland was no piece of cake.
The process involved sending 30,000 pounds of steel and 10,000 pounds of other building materials over to the island via barge back in 2013. The end result is now the distillery's headquarters, workshop, and retail store that's open to the public.
And if you want to see it, you'll have an epic adventure of taking a ferry to Daufuskie Island, then renting a golf cart to gain access to the beautiful property on which the distillery sits.
If you can't make it all the way over to Daufusike Island just yet to pick up your Daufuskie Island Distillery spirits, then you can check this link for locations in and around South Carolina where you can make a purchase.
