The last place we’d expect to find a massive butterfly house is in the middle of a swamp but have you been to Cypress Gardens lately? Butterflies are aplenty in this South Carolina swamp garden where, if you’re lucky, you’ll devote the entire day to exploring everything this unique preserve has to offer – including its epic 2,500-square-foot butterfly house. After major storms in 2015 forced this Lowcountry treasure to close for 3.5 years, it reopened in April 2019 and it is as stunning as ever.

At the center of this 170-acre preserve is an 80-acre swamp chock full of mature bald cypress and tupelo trees.

For visitors who don't mind the water, the best way to see the swamp and admire the views is by way of water (you can rent a boat or take a guided boat tour). But if water (or sharing it with the occasional alligator) makes you uncomfortable, then you can explore on foot via the many miles of trails that wind through the preserve.

Admission into this butterfly house in South Carolina is included in your general admission ticket into Cypress Gardens. The house and gardens are open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (the last admission is at 4 p.m.). Ticket are $10/adults, $5 ages 6-17, $6.50 for seniors 65+, first responders, and military.
