Is there anything more cheerful in the heat of the summer than passing a sunflower field with its colorful blooms standing tall and facing the same direction? If there would be one thing that could make this happenstance more exciting it would be getting to walk among those bright blooms and to be able to cut your own to bring home and brighten your own space.
If this sounds like a fun adventure, then you're in luck!
The first fields of sunflowers at Beechwood Farms in Marietta, South Carolina, are now blooming and the farm has set aside four days over the next two weekends for the public to come and enjoy. Prepare for an overload of cheer as you take full advantage of the four u-pick sunflower sessions.
Separate days are set aside for photographers to book appointments as well. See the BOOK NOW button on the Facebook page if you're a photographer wishing to schedule a session.
If you're planning on bringing home some of these beauties, then be sure to bring your own clippers (gloves are optional). There is no published limit for how many you can cut and the stems are a very reasonable $2 each.
Scientists have narrowed the reason behind the shift down to the flower naturally turning toward the sun as each side of the stem elongates. When the growing phase is complete, there's no need to turn.
Are you a sunflower-lovin' wild thing that thinks this would make an awesome day trip with the kids or a friend?
It's 30 minutes northwest of Greenville, two hours west of Rock Hill, and two hours northwest of Columbia. (See below for the address.)
