In spite of the countless dining options found in South Carolina, Old World food isn’t always easy to come by in the Palmetto State but there’s one eatery that specializes in German-Austrian food and it deserves a look (and a taste!). You won’t find schnitzel more delicious or authentic than at Cafe Old Vienna in Myrtle Beach.
It's located on Kings Highway, a main thoroughfare that's laden with hundreds of dining options. But Cafe Old Vienna is worthy of a visit — even if you've never dined at an authentic German-Austrian eatery before.
Whether you sit in the cheerful bar, the dining room, or outside on the patio, you'll be wowed by the flavors in this Old World establishment.
The menu includes a soup of the day, which sometimes includes the restaurant's favored goulash. Essentially, goulash is a paprika-seasoned soup with meat and veggies. If you've never had it, then you're in for an authentic first time at Cafe Old Vienna.
Soup aside (as delicious as it is) it's the schnitzel that wins our hearts at this eatery. For starters, the variety is astounding! There are 11 different kinds of schnitzel on the menu here.
You'll even find almond crusted schnitzel (seen here) in chicken, veal, and pork.
First time at a German-Austrian restaurant? Schnitzel is similar to the American version of country fried steak or chicken — only it's better.
The menu here includes veal wiener schnitzel, pork wiener schnitzel, chicken schnitzel, jaeger schnitzel, zigeuner schnitzel, and a special farmer's schnitzel. You can't go wrong with any of them. With so many to choose from, you can also go ahead and make a decision about which one to try on your next visit.
Dessert is also a must when treating yourself to German-Austrian fare. With more than a dozen items from which to choose, it may be difficult, but rest assured... you'll manage.
From apple strudel (seen here) to traditional German chocolate cake and more, the selections are so tempting, you may want to order a few and share with the table.
Why travel all the way to Europe for schnitzel or goulash when you can find the real thing right here in South Carolina?
Have you dined at Cafe Old Vienna recently? It's currently ranked #4 of more than 700 Myrtle Beach restaurants listed on Trip Advisor. Maybe it's time to plan a foodie road trip.
