Take This Short Trail To A Triple Waterfall Series In South Carolina

There are hundreds of waterfalls to discover and waterfall trails to explore in the Palmetto State but few lead to a triple waterfall quite as majestic as the Brasstown waterfall series near Long Creek. Tucked into the Sumter National Forest, the three waterfalls that make up the Brasstown series are each so very different that you’ll want to see them all on this short trek. This 1.2-mile, round trip hike leads to a triple waterfall in South Carolina worthy of an adventure..

At the top of the trail, the Brasstown Cascades never ceases to amaze. A stack of knobby rock ledges provide a gorgeous surface for the water to scramble down a 50-foot stair-stepped drop into a (usually) crystal-clear pool below.

To reach the trail and then head to the highest of the three Brasstown falls, you'll head to Brasstown Road near Longcreek and turn onto Brasstown Falls Road. The dirt road dead ends at the start of the 0.6-mile (one-way) trail.

Brasstown Cascades usually tempts hikers to stay a while to wade in the cool, shallow waters. If you do, just be mindful not to wander too far downstream because there's another waterfall in that direction.

After checking out the upper waterfall, hop back on the trail and double back to hike downstream to the next water fall: Brasstown Veil. You'll see it from high above long before you get to the base of the waterfall.

One major thing you should know before you embark on this triple waterfall hike is that the hike may start out easy-peasy, but if you want to see the second and third waterfall, you'll need to be prepared for some fancy footwork.

Getting to the base of Brasstown Veil (the second waterfall in the series) is a bit of a scramble on a steep hill with many obstacles. And getting to the base of the third falls in the series isn't much easier.

But, if you can manage to overcome the difficulty in getting down that scramble, it's definitely worth it! Brasstown Veil is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the state.

The second in the series, the Veil is 35 feet tall and spans the width of Brasstown Creek. The single rock ledge over which the water falls sends the water over in ribbons that create a veil over an open ledge below.

Continue on the trail to reach the third waterfall in the series located not too far downstream. Appropriately named Brasstown Sluice, this high-powered chute sends all of the water from above through a narrow opening and gushing down a 35-foot drop into a pool below.

Again, it's not easy to get to the bottom of the Sluice, but it's worth it if you feel you're up for the challenge.

The Brasstown waterfall series is one of the most beautiful spots in the Sumter National Forest and is definitely worth checking out this triple waterfall in South Carolina that drops a total of 120 feet. Due to the difficulty of reaching the second and third waterfall, you’ll want to avoid this trail after a recent rainfall. For more information about the trail, see this link at alltrails.com. Dogs are permitted, but may have a difficult time getting to the lower two waterfalls. Due to the nature of this full trail, we don’t recommend it for small children that may need to be carried.
