Waterfront attractions abound in the Palmetto State. From the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and Promenade all the way down the coast to Beaufort’s Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park , South Carolina has a thriving entertainment and recreational industry built around waterfront attractions that are as visited by locals as they are tourists. And the following boardwalk, officially deemed a ‘marshwalk,’ is among the best of the best. Take a look at all the Murrells Inlet MarshWalk has to offer…
From the street view, Murrells Inlet's restaurant row on Business 17 is filled with an endless array of dining choices on both sides of the highway.
Most people know that world-class dining is found throughout this cluster of popular restaurants — and that's precisely why this part of town is always so busy. But there is so much more to this 1/2 mile stretch of restaurants once you pop over to the MarshWalk located beyond the dining establishments on the water side of the highway.
The MarshWalk is a living, breathing, entertainment complex that doles out breathtaking views and a waterfront experience quite unlike any other in the state.
The boardwalk has live-music and events year-round, all with breathtaking views of the salt marsh. Murrells Inlet is one of the last great fishing villages along South Carolina's coast.
The great fishing boats of a century ago may be gone from this part of the waterways; however, many recreational and tourism vessels are still tied to the marina decking, adding to the beautiful views.
Speaking of the views... this may be the only place along the coast (we can think of one other) where you can spot a herd of somewhat wild goats over on an island appropriately called 'Goat Island.' You can see them above as white specs in this photo.
Here's a closer look. The furry residents of this goat island are probably the most well cared for herd of wild goats you'll ever encounter. They are fed and nurtured regularly and, during the winter months, are usually moved inland out of the sometimes frigid weather that blows in from the Atlantic.
Keep looking toward that view and you may occasionally swear you see a pirate ship cruise by. (Don't worry... it's real, and not simply just your imagination.) The inlet is widely known as an old haunt of Blackbeard and his crew, and is also said to be haunted.
Things along the waterfront here in Murrells Inlet are especially laid back. The many popular waterfront restaurants along the MarshWalk ensure there is a constant and steady beat of live music beaming from one place to the next.
The many events that take place annually (Halloween on the MarshWalk and the Chistmas Wonderland of Lights are upcoming!) ensure there is always some exciting celebration to look forward to. These fun events bring out some vendors you wouldn't ordinarily encounter and are fun occasions for the entire family.
The MarshWalk in Murrells Inlet is a favorite hangout along the coast and is an ideal place to grab a meal and then a walk to enjoy all of the activity.
The MarshWalk at Murrells Inlet is located waterside between Wicked Tuna and Bovines. It’s open year-round with world-class dining, shopping, entertainment and breathtaking views. What’s your favorite part of the MarshWalk?
