South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
Since 2018, the South Carolina State Fairgrounds has put on a fabulous show of Christmas lights in Columbia, S.C. with over 100 beautiful, twinkling LED displays! Known as Carolina Lights, you’ll enjoy favorites from previous years if you’ve been before, as well as some new displays to look forward to. Here’s everything you need to know about this opportunity to experience the enchantment of the holiday season.
The South Carolina State Fairgrounds is located on Rosewood Drive in downtown Columbia, but entry into the event is through Gate 6 at 901 George Rogers Boulevard. Upon arrival, you're provided a scavenger hunt along with a coloring book from Lexington Medical Center.
Carolina Lights is a drive-through Christmas lights display. Tune your radio to 88.9 FM to enjoy holiday music synchronized with the lights as you progress through the show!
One nice thing about this Columbia Christmas lights display is that you can request a re-entry pass at the exit gate if you'd like to drive through the show a second time on the same night. This opportunity does end 15 minutes before closing each night, however.
About halfway through the show, stop at 123 Cookie Lane to buy cookies and milk, water, or soda for a delicious snack while you enjoy the rest of the show.
Carolina Lights is closed on Mondays, but be sure to visit the Carolina Lights website or the South Carolina State Fairgrounds Facebook page for more details and updates on this wonderful holiday lights display.
