South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Charleston is consistently chosen by travelers as well as those looking for a venue for special occasions, such as weddings, especially when held outdoors because of its beautiful scenery, gorgeous chapels, and more. It’s also recently been named as a top winter holiday getaway destination. No matter your reason for visiting Charleston, you’ll have a multitude of options for activities to enjoy, delicious restaurants to dine at, and places to stay overnight. We do have a couple of recommendations we think you’ll want to check out, including a new and exciting spot for gathering over the holidays or other special occasions and a cozy vacation home rental in Lodge Alley Inn in downtown Charleston to kick back and relax after a full day of exploring this historic city.
The new gathering spot is called Mezcaleria, a second floor bar offered by Matador, which is also a newer spot (open only since May 2023) serving delicious Mexican-inspired made-from-scratch food in a warm, vibrant, and stylish space located on Meeting Street in downtown Charleston.
A huge part of the ambiance and atmosphere customers love here is the many candles that are placed throughout the restaurant.

Matador's drink selection has a strong focus on tequila and agave spirits, offering the largest selection in the Carolinas. Some options to consider if you're not sure what to order include the cucumber jalapeno margarita (a customer favorite) or if you like seasonal offerings, you could try the hot buttered rum during the holiday season.
There's also a seasonal food menu with a mushroom appetizer that's been a hit, or you'll always have the classic regular items to choose from, such as nachos, another customer favorite.
The Mezcaleria space is open Fridays and Saturdays from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. Its beautiful bar is made from reclaimed wood, and additional seating space on the outdoor patio is perfect for those of us who love enjoying South Carolina's almost year round nice weather.
When you've finished up for the evening at Mezcaleria, you'll head just a few minutes away to the charming loft inside Lodge Alley Inn on East Bay Street that you've booked for your overnight stay.
You'll probably be enjoying Charleston's amazing food scene, but should you need to cook or have any meals at the loft during your stay, it's suitably equipped to do so!
