An exceptional hot dog is hard to find in South Carolina. We’re convinced that how great one of these bun-served sticks of goodness is depends a lot on where you eat it. For instance, hot dogs always taste great at a ball park or when you’re sitting around a campfire and you’ve just pulled your hot dog off of a skewer. That being the case, there is also much to be said for a destination hot dog.

You know... the spot that takes a little while to get to, but is such a unique place it becomes a destination.

Pat's Cash and Carry, located in Salem and not far from either Lake Jocassee or Lake Keowee, is just far enough out in the countryside to make it a destination.

And the hot dogs are definitely worth the drive!

At first glance, you may *think* Pat's is a ramshackle country store; however, this hot little store on the corner is an icon on the landscape.

It's been open for decades and serves up more than just delicious hot dogs. You can also get an entire bowl of the delicious chili that tops their dogs, and they have a taco salad people come back for again and again.

We think a great hot dog is like a bag of popcorn or a good book; you just can't stop. But for that one day when you want something else, you simply must try their Philly Cheese Steak with seasoned fries!

Pair your meal with an old-fashioned Nehi, RC, or an ice cold A&W.

Pat's Cash and Carry is family-owned and has aged gracefully over the years.

What may *look like ramshackle* is actually just a huge welcome sign that says, "Come on in."
