South Carolina has been home for AnneMarie since 2001. Her favorite part of the state is Lake Jocassee. An App State alumna, it's always the mountains; the lake bonus makes it heavenly. When not writing about the state, she may be spending time with family, relaxing by the pool, or out somewhere enjoying nature.
Of all the Halloween festivities across the state, you’ve never seen anything like what the town of Halloween, South Carolina is doing! But, wait just a minute, you’re probably thinking about now… there’s no city in our state with that name. Oh, but as of September 23, there is! That’s right, Mayor Barbara Blain-Bellamy held a news conference to proclaim that the City of Conway will refer to itself this October as Halloween. And so naturally, this is the best Halloween town in South Carolina!
We can almost hear the wheels spinning in some of your heads right now! No worries … this proclamation has no official legal effect. It’s just a fun, brilliant way for Conway to give a nod to the increased economic activities that will be enjoyed during the season.
What better way to kick off such a momentous occasion than with a contest? All of the mini-Martha Stewarts will enjoy this one, a Halloween Home Decorating Contest! Hurry, though … if you have not entered yet, the deadline for registering is Friday, October 14.
The Conway Medical Center put its own twist into the occasion, with pink pumpkins to remind everyone that October is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
There are lots of special events going on throughout the month to suit a variety of interests. We are all different, of course, something that should be kept in mind as Conway has done with this variety of activities put together, including pumpkin picking!
Foodies will love participating in the BBQ Festival. Did you know that South Carolina is the only state in America where you can find all four types of barbecue sauce sometimes on the same menu?
Don’t forget to stop by the outdoor Halloween photo booth the Planning and Development Department created at their building at 196 Laurel Street. After all, you’ll need proof for the doubters that you were in Halloween, South Carolina, or it will be nice just to have the photo to look back on these fun Halloween memories.
These events are just a sampling of everything Conway has planned. Visit the City of Halloween, SC Facebook page or the Halloween Events Page on the City of Conway’s website for a complete schedule of all events. Some require registration and have already booked up, so don’t wait if you want to be able to take advantage of any of the events still open!
