Search For Shark Teeth At This One Beautiful Beach In South Carolina

The Atlantic Ocean is filled with mystery and intrigue and luckily, some of it washes ashore in South Carolina. If you love taking a walk along the beach to look for shells and more, then a visit to Folly Beach is in order – especially if you collect shark teeth.

For some reason... perhaps due to the current or possibly even the position of the island's coastline against the sea and incoming tides, Folly Beach catches loads of fossils.

A simple walk along the shore can yield a number of finds if you know what to look for.

A typical shark may live 20, or even 30, years and during its lifetime it is constantly shedding and regrowing teeth.

It's possible for some species of shark to shed/regrow as many as 35,000 teeth in just one lifetime.

Does the abundance of shark teeth here mean there are more sharks offshore from Folly than anywhere else along the South Carolina coast? Not at all.

It's just as safe to enjoy the beach at Folly as anywhere else in the Palmetto State.
