Most people who visit Charleston don’t realize there is a zoo in the city. It’s located at Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site, a 664-acre site along the marsh and the Ashley River that is home not only to a natural habitat zoo, but also miles of trails, historic exhibits, ongoing archaeological digs, and more.
The zoo is located in the Animal Forest. Here in this zoo unique to the Lowcountry, you'll discover only creatures that were indigenous to the area in 1670.
Coinsidentally, if you're not entirely familiar with Charles Towne Landing, this park also contains the very location where the first settlers docked their ship all those centuries ago.
The Animal Forest at Charles Towne Landing State Historic Site is accessible year-round (except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). The hours are 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. daily. Admission includes access to Charles Town Landing as well as the Animal Forest. Current admission fees are: $10/adult; $6.50/seniors with SC address; $6/youth age 6-15; free for children 5 and younger. Learn more on the official website of South Carolina State Parks.
Address: It’s located at 1500 Old Towne Road, Charleston, SC, 29407
